PRK decision

Background: I was 14 years old when my vision started to deteriorate, and in the following few years I had to replace my lenses to stronger and stronger dioptre. At the age of 21, I had -3.25 and -3.00 dioptre lens.

Decision: I was 21, when my doctor first mentioned the possibility of having a laser eye surgery. The thought immediately struck in my head, but at that time neither had I money nor the courage to do it. I took me 6-7 years to decide to investigate this possibility, and to have it performed, if possible.

Choice: my first option was to go to the best clinic in my city (Cluj, Romania), where I was recommended to have the surgery 7 years ago. I had to wait 6 weeks for the preliminary examination, which then took only about 10 minutes. They measured my vision and my corneal thickness; nothing else. Then, they briefly stated that I am a good candidate for the surgery. No more information, no advice, no chatting about the surgery. On my question, they said that the PRK method is recommended. They didn't gave me any paper with the results, and these 10 minutes cost me around 60 euros (quite expensive where I lea). The meeting was useful though: I decided that I won't have the surgery there.
So I started looking online and I found some clinics with good recommendations in Budapest (Hungary): Optik-Med and Medical Focus. Finally, I decided to go with the first one, because I opted for the PRK method, and the Opti-Med had the most experience. I checked in for a preliminary examination by email, and I was scheduled for 19th of August, 2010.

About this blog

This blog is about my PRK eye surgery experience.

Having a surgery like this was not an easy decision, it was preceded by lot of reading and searching on the internet. Blogs, forums and advice from others were of great help to me. My intent is to help others as well, who are considering this option, and to share my experience to everyone who is interested in how the surgery went.

Feel free to leave your comments, ask questions, or share your own experience about laser eye surgery.
